Alexandria, Va. (April 7, 2026) —The National Home Infusion Foundation (NHIF) is proud to announce Barbara Petroff, MS, RPh, BCSCP, CAC, CSPP, IgCP, FNHIA, FASHP as the recipient of the 2026 Women in Leadership Award.

The Lynn Giglione Women in Leadership Award recognizes and honors women leaders who have demonstrated exemplary service to patients and their peers while promoting the mission of NHIF. The award was established in 2015 to commemorate the late Lynn Giglione—the award’s namesake and a leader in the home and alternate site infusion industry—who was a founding board member of NHIF.

A Career Built on Pioneering Excellence
Petroff is Principal at Shawler Petroff LLC, where she consults with pharmacies preparing for accreditation, and serves as an accreditation surveyor for the Community Health Accreditation Partner (CHAP). She is also a faculty member at Schoolcraft College, where she conducts pharmacy technician training.

Petroff earned her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from The Ohio State University and her Master of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University. A true pioneer of home infusion, she transitioned from hospital pharmacy in the late 1980s and helped shape sterile compounding and clinical pharmacy practices for some of the field’s earliest providers. She was a dedicated contributor to NHIA since its early days, serving on and chairing the Standards Committee, contributing to INFUSION magazine, and helping develop the home infusion therapy instructional programs and sterile compounding workshop. She currently serves as Chair of the Sterile Compounding Practice Committee for NHIA and holds certification in sterile compounding (BCSCP) from the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties.

She also helped form the ASHP HomeCare Section, serving on its Executive Board, contributing to practice guidelines, national conference presentations, and journal publications that helped define the field. She was named an ASHP Fellow in 1999 and received the organization’s Distinguished Service Award in 2019.

Petroff has played a key role in the development of new pharmacists and pharmacy technicians through her commitment to mentorship and leadership development. She actively supports pharmacists and health care professionals in realizing their leadership potential through guidance, encouragement, and knowledge sharing.

“Barbara’s expertise in the sterile compounding standards is remarkable, and her ability to translate and communicate the intention of these standards to practitioners in the home infusion space is key to continued patient safety and quality care,” observed Connie Sullivan, NHIA’s President and CEO. “From home infusion’s infancy, through national education, conference presentations, committee leadership, and direct consultation and mentorship, she has influenced best practices that will ensure the industry continues to flourish for decades to come.”

“I am honored to receive this award,” said Petroff. “I would like to thank Ohio State University for giving me a great education as well as my family—husband Jim and kids Nichole, Andrea, and Jon—and my NHIA family. I have been fortunate to work with so many fantastic people in home infusion over the years—this is a truly welcoming community of professionals who share a passion for patient-centered care.”

Petroff will be formally recognized at the NHIA 2026 Annual Conference during the General Session on Tuesday, April 21, from 1:30–2:45 PM Mountain Standard Time. Please join us in congratulating Barbara Petroff on this well-deserved honor.
